New Campaign to Promote Micro-Adventures Along Route 28
[May 1, 2015 East Meredith, NY] Attractions on or near Route 28, from Kingston to Herkimer, are the focus of a new campaign that links families and groups with “micro-adventures.” Hanford Mills Museum, which is located a few miles off Route 28 in East Meredith, is managing the effort, funded in part by a $37,500 grant from Market NY.
“Micro-adventures” are authentic experiences for families and groups looking for a taste of adventure at affordable and easily accessible locations. The Smiles28.com website and brochure will let people choose from a variety of activities to plan a fun afternoon, weekend or week along Route 28.
“Smiles28.com will enable people to venture off the Thruway to experience small town charm, scenic vistas, family fun, rural history, cultural treasures and outdoor adventures,” explains Liz Callahan, the executive director of Hanford Mills Museum. Some of the featured activities are: biking, bird watching, fossil hunting, kayaking, skiing, golfing, hiking, tubing, snowshoeing, fishing, berry picking, , playing laser tag, and more.
To be featured in the Smiles28.com program, attractions should be located on or near NY State Route 28, between Kingston and Herkimer. Contact Marcy Birch (607/376-1853) for more information, or sign-up online at smiles28.com. There is a $50 participation fee.
“We’ve kept the fee low, because we want to enable attractions of all sizes to be able to participate in this dynamic marketing campaign. By highlighting all the activities and experiences Route 28 has to offer, we will raise the visibility and the ‘visit-ability’ of the whole region,” says Callahan.
The website will feature an interactive itinerary builder, so visitors can build their trip around geographic zones along NYS Route 28 (for example Margaretville or Oneonta) or search by types of activities. Attractions should visit Smiles28.com to sign-up by early May to be featured in the printed brochure. Website additions will be made on an ongoing basis.
