Celebrate art and our breathtaking landscape at the Fenimore Art Museum’s annual Art by the Lake. The event offers artist demonstrations, exhibits of works by contemporary artists, activities for kids, live music with Sam Whedon and Friends, and great food and beverages all in a lavish setting overlooking Otsego Lake. Special guests will also be on hand in the morning to assist with judging and presenting the awards. Families can enjoy children’s art activities and more.
Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring several talented artists. In 2014, artists included Deborah Angilletta, Meg Anderson Argo, Celia Clark, Tracy Helgeson, Andrea House, Tom Hussey, Richard Kathmann, Linda Kollar, John Morrette, Mary Nolan, Anne Pascale, Robert Stangle, and Cheryl Wright.
A panel of judges determines awards and spectator voting for Audience Favorite continues until 2:30 pm. The award ceremony takes place at 3:00 pm.
In addition to the spectacular art, there are creative children’s art activities. Plein air artists will be sketching and painting on the museum’s lawn and just a short stroll away is a visit to the Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place. Tour the Museum’s acclaimed summer exhibitions.
Enjoy great food, locally crafted beers, and fabulous wines. The Fenimore Café will also be open throughout the day. There will also be additional community organizations at the event.
Admission to Art by the Lake is $10 (ages 13-64) and includes access to the Fenimore Art Museum and this summer’s popular exhibitions. Members of NYSHA and children 12 and under are free. Active and retired career military are also free when presenting their card at admissions. No other discounts apply.
